It would be like watching Deliverance, then trying to find Ned Beatty sexy. I'm sorry. I understand that's not his fault that his character is portrayed in a shitty way (or, shit-upon, perhaps, in Beatty's case?) but it doesn't make that image go away. Cowboy Desperado! No contest. And Dern's character is a total nutbag, whilst Voight's character is more approachable in his mental and physical brokenness. Plus, from a feminist perspective, Dern's character is appalling... with all that nonsense whining about "but I don't *want* you to work." Whine, whine, whine. You still have your legs, asshole.
